Gillian Kocher of the Pennsylvania SPCA

This weekend, the Pennsylvania SPCA hosts an adoption day. Over 100 cats were rescued from a hoarding situation by the organization. Due to the fact that the public isn’t fully aware of the facts, adoptions have been slow. Inflation rates are also raising concerns about the cost of pet care. But this isn't the end. This weekend, the Pennsylvania SPCA will hold several events to help these animals find new homes.

The Pennsylvania SPCA confiscated fifteen dogs from a home of an unlicensed breeder, including three dogs that had been illegally removed. The animals were found in a filthy environment, littered with urine/feces. Many of the cats may not survive. The ASPCA launched a fundraising campaign with a woman who scares animals in an effort to raise money. The Pennsylvania SPCA does not have any affiliation with the ASPCA. However, the SPCA has a long track record of rescuing animals from a variety different situations.

FAQ

How often should I groom my dog?

Grooming your dog can be very important. It will keep your dog's coat healthy and clean.

Your dog needs to be brushed at least twice a week. After each meal, you should brush your dog.

The best way to remove dirt and hair from your dog is to brush his fur. Brushing your dog's teeth will make him look more healthy.

Also, make sure to clean his ears.

What kind should I feed my dog?

A healthy diet is essential for your dog.

High-protein foods include chicken, beef and fish as well as eggs and dairy products.

Other foods that contain high amounts of carbohydrates include fruits, vegetables and bread as well as pasta, rice and potatoes.

A variety of foods that are low-fat include lean meats (poultry, fish), nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grain.

Before giving your dog any new foods, consult your veterinarian.

What age is appropriate for a child to have a pet?

Children under 5 years old should not own pets. Cats and dogs are dangerous for young children.

Children who own pets often get bitten by them. This is particularly true for small dogs.

A few breeds of dogs, like pit bulls can be quite aggressive towards other animals.

Although a dog may seem friendly, that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't attack an animal.

So, if you choose to get a dog, ensure it is well trained. Also, supervise your child whenever the dog is with her.

What should I do if my dog bites someone?

If you are attacked or threatened by an animal, ensure that it is not rabid. If that is impossible, call for help. You could be seriously hurt if you try to manage the situation yourself.

If the pet is not aggressive but bites, it should be taken to a veterinary hospital. Your vet will inspect it and determine if further treatment is necessary.

Rabies shots are usually required in most cases. You should never administer them yourself. This should only be done by a licensed person.

What should you consider when getting a pet?

Consider what lifestyle you want for your family and yourself. Do you have children? If so, how many? Are they still young? Are there any special dietary requirements for them?

Do you have any allergies? Do you have any other questions about your pet?

Now, you can think about whether you are looking to find an active companion, quiet lap dog or house-trained cat. Or perhaps a fish tank filled with tropical fish.

If you are considering adopting a puppy from a shelter, rescue group or other organization, you should meet them and make sure that you feel comfortable with them.

You will also need to confirm that the animal has been immunized against rabies or other diseases.

The owner should also be asked if the animal will be taken care of while you're away. This way, you won't have to worry about leaving your pet at home alone.

Remember that pets are part of the family, and you shouldn't adopt one unless you really like him or her!

Should I spay/neuter my dog?

Yes! It's very important to spay or neuter your dog.

Not only does it reduce the number of unwanted puppies in the world, but it also reduces the risk of certain diseases.

In female dogs, the chance of developing breast cancer is higher than it is in male dogs.

Males are at greater risk for testicular cancer than their female counterparts.

The spaying or neutering of your pet can also help to prevent her from having babies.

How To

How to train a pet canine

A pet dog, or companion animal, is one that offers companionship and emotional support to its owners. It may provide protection against predators and protect other animals.

Dog owners should train their pet to be able to retrieve items, guard against intruders and obey orders.

The training period usually lasts between six months and two years. The owner teaches the dog basic obedience skills such as how to sit, lay down, stay, come on command, roll over, and walk on command. The dog's natural instincts are taught to the owner and the dog learns to obey basic verbal commands.

The owner should also teach the dog to behave appropriately in unfamiliar situations and not bite other animals.
